Coastal Counties

A visual collection of places along the California coast.

Coastal Counties started as a series of typographic identities for places along the California coast. I wanted to extend the idea by pairing each identity with an image that captured something about the place itself.

I began collecting photographs of coastal communities and landscapes, looking for images that felt right for each location. I brought them into a common palette that connected the photography with the typography and gave the growing collection a consistent look.

Around the same time, I started thinking about eventually traveling the coast myself, experiencing these places on foot and taking my own photographs along the way. That idea is still out there.
