Found Faces
An accidental series, 2020ā21
During a stretch of working remotely from the house where I grew up, sitting at the tiny desk I'd used as a kid, I found an odd assortment of decades-old and forgotten pens, pencils, and highlighters tucked away in a drawer.
I'm always drawing while thinking or listening. During conference calls, conversations, and moments when I feel the urge to loosen my mind, Iām making marks on whatever happens to be nearby, freeing my mind to listen.
These gestural drawings started that way. There was no intention to draw faces, or really anything in particular. I just started making marks with materials on hand, and the faces began to materialize. One led to another, and variation became part of the exercise.
That's often how I like to work when I'm creating: start without intention and see where it leads.
